Steam Locomotives

Please note, due to existing order load, no further orders are being taken for Steam Locomotives at this time (March 2007).

We have designed & produced a range of gas fired live steam locomotives of interest to those who favour the smaller prototype or who need to use smaller track radii in a confined space.

Some are available with radio control of speed and direction. We believe these to be the smallest locos commercially available with self contained 2 channel radio ( no need for a coupled truck to carry the batteries and receiver.)

This is a small company and the locos are not produced in large quantities but each one is hand built with care and personal attention to quality and detail.

All the locos are based on the same proven  basic components, and share the same general mechanical specification. Due to the small overall size these locos are only available for 32mm gauge track.

There are two models in the current range : Wagtail, and Falcon. Our Robin locomotive is currently not available
.

Robin

Please note, we regret that this locomotive is not currently in production and further orders cannot be taken.

ROBIN is not intended to represent any particular prototype but is typical of many small narrow gauge industrial and contractors locomotives built in the early years of last century. It has much of the look of some of the Bagnall or Decauville tank locos but, for simplicity and reliability, it has the Hackworth valve gear much used by Kerr Stuart. It is produced as a basic locomotive without excessive detailing but with a good mechanical specification and is offered at an attractive price.
Like all our locomotives it is hand built with care and personal attention to detail.

ROBIN is produced in side tank and saddle tank versions.

Robin - Saddle Tank Version       Robin - Side Tank Version

The boiler is 4 1/2" long, with a  capacity of approximately 160ml.
When fully run-in, the boiler duration is 25 to 30 minutes in average conditions if not re-filled.

The locomotive is of  0-4-0 configuration.   Wheels are approximately 1 1/8" dia.
Length over buffer beams 7 1/4",  Overall width  3 3/4"
Height over cab roof  5 7/8"
Minimum operating radius 2'6".

The gas regulator is on the front of the cab, just below the roof line.
The manual control version features a reversing lever inside the right hand side of the cab.  The steam regulator is accessible through the cab rear sheet.
On the radio control version the receiver is attached to the cab back sheet,  the servos are under the cab floor and the batteries are under the hinged roof on either side of the gas tank.  The receiver crystal can be changed without having to disturb the bodywork.

The loco comes complete with Boiler Pressure Feed system, Name and Number Plates of your choice, an initial supply of Steam Oil, Gas Jet Pricker and Owners Manual.
Saddle tank locos are also supplied with a tubular spanner for the safety valve.

WAGTAIL
A tender version of the popular ROBIN tank locos.

The loco features the proven mechanical components of the existing established and popular Robin range,  including the 0-4-0 chassis, slide valve cylinders and Hackworth valve gear.
The cab is in the Robin style but having extended sides, floor and roof.  The small four wheel tender is semi-permanently attached by a bar and peg coupling and the space between loco and tender is covered by a fall-plate.
The tender comes complete with dummy water filler and coal load.
The loco is not fitted with water tanks as standard but the existing Robin side tanks or saddle tank can be fitted at extra cost if required.

Water and gas capacity and duration of run is identical to ROBIN.Length over buffer beams is 12 1/4" (311mm).  Minimum operating radius 2' 6".

Wagtail

Available in standard ROBIN colours.  Others colours available at extra cost.
Supplied only as finished ready-to-run locos.

The loco comes complete with Boiler Pressure Feed system,  Name and Number Plates of your choice, an initial supply of Steam Oil, a Gas Jet Pricker and a comprehensive Owners Manual.
The manual version features a reversing lever inside the right hand side of the cab.The radio control version has two channel 40mHz radio.  The two servos are fitted under the cab floor.  One controls the forward / reverse function and the other controls the speed.
The receiver and batteries are installed in the tender underneath the dummy coal load.

FALCON
An 0-4-2 version of the popular ROBIN tank locos.

The locomotive bears a strong resemblance to the Kerr Stuart ‘Tattoo’ class
It features the proven mechanical components of the existing established and popular Robin range,  including the slide valve cylinders and Hackworth valve gear.
.

Falcon

The frames are lengthened to allow for the trailing wheels and the driving wheels are slightly larger in diameter.  The bodywork is in the Robin style but having bunkers extended forward of the cab.  The safety valve fits between the front of the cab and the saddle tank.

The boiler is increased in length by about 15% to 5 1/4"  and the gas tank is enlarged in proportion.
Length over buffer beams is 7 7/8"   Overall width is 3 3/4"
Height over cab roof is 6".

Minimum operating radius 2' 6".

Available in standard ROBIN colours.  Others colours available at extra cost.
Supplied only as finished ready-to-run locos.

The loco comes complete with Boiler Pressure Feed system,  Name and Number Plates of your choice, an initial supply of Steam Oil,  a Gas Jet Pricker,  a safety valve spanner and a comprehensive Owners Manual.

Currently available only for manual control.  It features a reversing lever inside the right hand side of the cab.  The steam regulator is accessible through the cab rear sheet and the gas regulator is on the left hand side of the cab, just above the lubricator.
